Our Projects

Chepkinoiyo (chep-kin-oy-o) Primary School is located in the Molo District, Kenya, it was established in 2009 after the post election violence of 2007/2008. Since its establishment the school became dilapidated with leaking roofs and rotting timber. The dirt floors exposed children to high dust levels and the tin exteriors cause sweltering hot temperatures. Despite the poor quality of the temporary school buildings, the school stood as a symbol of peace and integration in a violence prone community.

The Chepkinoiyo Building Project is coordinated by two school teachers, Emily McKenzie and her husband Thomas McKenzie of Northern NSW (AUS), in conjunction with Chepkinoiyo Primary School Director, Professor Adam Arap K. Chepkwony. Following Emily and Thomas' privately organised volunteer teaching placement in Kenya they were inspired to improve the standards of the school environment. At the beginning of the 2014 school year, Chepkinoiyo Primary School had an enrolment of 150 students from very poor families, since the introduction of the Chepkinoiyo Building Project the enrolments have been increasing rapidly with a current enrolment of over 200 students.

COVID-19 Staff Food Bank - CURRENT

Due to the current pandemic our staff have been rendered unemployed and

without money to put food on the table for their families. Through the CBP,

we are raising funds to provide basic food to our 15 staff at a cost of $40

per month to feed one staff member and their family.

Jo Cash Fundraiser Phase 1, 2 & 3 - COMPLETE

Phase 3 - Administration block

Due to the huge success of this fundraiser we have been able to

continue further projects. Our final project was to build an

Administration block which has now been completed. It stands as the face

of the school and offers the staff of Chepkinoiyo a place of comfort.

Phase 2 - Furniture, water tanks & toilet blocks

With additional funds raised through the Jo Cash fundraiser we

have been ale to purchase desks and chairs to accommodate 60

Year 7 and 8 students. We have also purchased water tanks to

provide the Chepkinoiyo school community with fresh drinking

water. Finally, the boys and girls at Chepkinoiyo now have two

toilet blocks!

Phase 1 - Year 7 and 8 classroom building

Since CBP completed the McKenzie Nursery School building, the

parents and community of Chepkinoiyo have worked hard to

continue building projects of their own. They have constructed

classrooms for Years 1 to 6. Through this fundraiser we raised

near $20,000AUD which allowed us to complete the last classroom building

needed to accommodate the Year 7 and 8 students before

they move off to high school. The great success of this fundraiser

also saw the addition of Phase 2 and 3 above.

Power Project 2015 - COMPLETE

With the project aim to offer the school community access to

electricity, the power project began in December 2014 with a

fundraising goal of $3000AUD. The goal has been reached

which has seen the installation of meter box, security lights,

classroom lights and all necessary wiring. It is expected that

the power will be officially connected early 2016.

Nursery Classroom Project 2014 - COMPLETE

Commencing in January 2014, the project aim was to raise

$10,000AUD to build a three classroom nursery school building at

Chepkinoiyo Primary School. After 9 months of fundraising the

three classrooms were officially opened in November 2014 and

are now used to educate approximately 75 students aged 3 to 7

years of age. The completion of these classrooms has motivated

the community to begin building another set of three classrooms.
